According to a report by Cointelegraph, Telegram intends to launch the mainnet and token for its blockchain-based Telegram Open Network in March 2019.

The crypto news site claims they received the information from a source close to Telegram Founder and CEO, Pavel Durov.

Telegram finds itself among the ten biggest messaging platforms with an estimated 200+ million active users a month. The What’s App alternative raised over $1.6 billion USD in two private token sales last year for the Telegram Open Network (TON).

With such a huge user base, Telegram is expected to bring several new users to the ecosystem and provide a unique opportunity to study how the adoption of cryptocurrencies by big companies will effect crypto usage and market sentiment.

Facebook is also rumored to be developing a stablecoin for the What’s App instant messenger. It will be very interesting to see how the existing rivalry translates from just racing for app users to token infrastructure and more.

The source indicated that the Telegram CEO did not want to confirm the date for TON’s release and that the speculated March release date is subject to change.

Telegram Open Network (TON) is rumored to be a data exchange blockchain platform powered by the native “Gram” cryptocurrency.

Recently, Durov claimed that “2019 will be the most important year in the history of the company,” in recent interviews and the latest rumors are showing signs in that direction.

TON developers are currently working with Japan, China, and the United Kingdom while they study the international laws of other countries.

Things look very good for the upcoming project as an existing user base coupled with positive hype may make this the biggest ICO product launch.
